Aaron Ramsdale completes £35m move from relegated Sheffield United to Southampton
Premier League new boys Southampton have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from relegated Sheffield United for a fee of £35m.
The news comes as a blow for the Blades, who were said to be holding out for £40m for the England international. However, the Saints have been able to secure his services for a slightly lower fee.
Ramsdale, 23, has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season, despite his club's struggles. He has kept eight clean sheets in 38 appearances, and has made some stunning saves.
The goalkeeper has also been capped twice by England, and is seen as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the country.
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is delighted to have brought Ramsdale to the club.
"Aaron is a fantastic goalkeeper and I am very pleased that we have been able to sign him," Hasenhuttl said.
"He is a young, talented player with a lot of potential, and I am confident that he can be a big success at Southampton."
Ramsdale is Southampton's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Romain Perraud from Stade Brest.
