Darren Moore admits Sheffield Wednesday could struggle to re-sign on-loan MK Dons midfielder Will Smallbone
Wednesday boss says Owls are ‘not the only club’ interested in the midfielder
Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore has admitted the club could struggle to re-sign on-loan MK Dons midfielder Will Smallbone beyond the end of the season. Smallbone, 23, has been a key player for the Owls since joining the club on loan in January, making 17 appearances and scoring three goals. However, his future at Hillsborough is uncertain, with his loan deal set to expire at the end of the season. Moore has made it clear that he would like to keep Smallbone at the club, but he has also admitted that it could be difficult to do so. “Will is a player that we would like to keep, but we are not the only club who is interested in him,” Moore said. “He is a very good player and he has shown what he can do here at Sheffield Wednesday. “But we have to be realistic and we have to understand that there are other clubs who are interested in him. “We will do everything we can to keep him, but we also have to respect his decision.” Smallbone is a product of the Southampton academy and he made his debut for the Saints in 2019.
