Jean-Philippe Mateta Scores Twice in Extra Time to Lift Les Bleus Past Egypt

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice in extra time as France advanced to the final of the men's soccer tournament at the Olympic Games with a 2-1 win over Egypt on Monday.

The French trailed 1-0 after Mostafa Mohamed put Egypt ahead in the 11th minute, but Mateta equalized in the 76th minute to force extra time.

In the 98th minute, Mateta struck again to give France the lead, and Les Bleus held on to secure their spot in the final.

France will face either Brazil or Japan in the gold medal match on Wednesday.
