Before the Stars: Minnesota North Stars
The franchise that would become the Dallas Stars began its life in Minnesota as the North Stars. From 1967 to 1992, the North Stars played in the NHL's Western Division, making the playoffs 13 times but never advancing past the second round.
Move to Dallas and Early Years
In 1993, the North Stars relocated to Dallas and were renamed the Stars. The team struggled in its early years in Dallas, missing the playoffs in each of its first three seasons. However, the Stars made their first playoff appearance in 1997 and reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1999, where they lost to the Buffalo Sabres in six games.
Recent History
Since 2000, the Stars have made the playoffs 14 times, but have only advanced past the second round twice. The Stars won their first Stanley Cup in 2020, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
Jersey History
The Dallas Stars have worn a variety of jerseys throughout their history. Their first jersey was a green and gold design that was used from 1993 to 1996. The Stars then switched to a black and silver design that was used from 1996 to 2003. In 2003, the Stars unveiled a new red and white jersey that was used until 2006. The Stars then returned to the black and silver design in 2006 and have worn it ever since.
