Avalanche Kills 22 in Afghanistan

Tragedy Strikes Rural Province

At least 22 people have been killed and dozens more injured after an avalanche struck a remote village in Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province, according to local officials.

The avalanche, which occurred early on Thursday, buried dozens of homes in the village of Aurzu. Rescue teams are currently working to locate and retrieve survivors. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have declared a state of emergency in the affected area and deployed additional resources to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts. The Afghan Red Crescent Society and other humanitarian organizations are also providing aid to the survivors.

Avalanches are a common occurrence in Afghanistan's mountainous regions during the winter months. However, this particular incident is one of the deadliest in recent years. The rugged terrain and lack of infrastructure in the affected area are hampering rescue efforts.

The tragedy has cast a shadow over the region and highlighted the need for improved disaster preparedness and response measures. The Afghan government and international aid organizations are working together to provide support to the affected communities and prevent future tragedies.
