NBA: Timberwolves Shock Nuggets, Take 3-2 Lead in West Semifinals
Edwards Leads Wolves to Game 5 Victory
Denver Faces Elimination as Series Shifts Back to Minneapolis
Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves have seized control of their Western Conference semifinal series against the reigning champion Denver Nuggets. The Wolves pulled away for a 106-99 victory in Game 5 on Friday night in Denver, putting the Nuggets in a position they've never been in since winning the NBA championship in 2023.
Edwards poured in a game-high 28 points, including a crucial three-pointer late in the fourth quarter that gave the Wolves a 101-96 lead. Karl-Anthony Towns added 23 points and 14 rebounds, while D'Angelo Russell chipped in 19 points for Minnesota.
Nikola Jokic had another dominant performance for the Nuggets, finishing with 41 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. However, the Nuggets were unable to keep up with the Timberwolves' outside shooting, as the Wolves connected on 16 three-pointers to Denver's eight.
The series now shifts back to Minneapolis for Game 6 on Monday night. If the Nuggets win, the series will return to Denver for a decisive Game 7 on Wednesday. However, if the Timberwolves win, they will advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2018.
